I thought it could be a good idea to place some English tests in this topic. At first I intended to put some random tests but then I decided that it would be better if we focus on the University entrance exam and the tests that are related to the lessons we must study for that exam.I try to place a few good tests here, every now and then since my time is limited. And I will be extremely thankful and joyous if anyone decides to take part in this topic and participate in sharing tests. I try to pick out those tests which are considered not easy. So as we can learn something from them. And well, the most important part of the job we do here is to explain the answers and the special tricks which I try to do as much as I know and again I would really appreciate it if anyone mentions my mistakes. So here we go.

1. I believe rich people should help ............
a. poor b. poors c. the poor d. the poors

2. The Police.......to find the thief for the last 2 days.
a. is trying b. are trying c. has tried d. have tried

3. The variety of information he provided us with was so great that I was entirely confused.
Because of my previous information I............easily.
a. Picked up them b. picked it up c. picked up it d. picked them up

Feel free to answer and discuss your answers or put tests here.

1. I believe rich people should help ............
a. poor b. pors c. the poor d. the poors
Because "THE POOR" means the poor people & It's a Plural noun!

2. The Police.......to find the thief for the last 2 days.
a. is trying b. are trying c. has tried d. have tried
Because the word"police"is Plural!

3. The variety of information he provided us with was so great that I was entirely confused.
Because of my previous information I............easily.
a. Picked up them b. picked it up c. picked up it d. picked them up
Because information is uncountable & also the verb"pick up"is separable.

Thanks for ur great tests! >:D<
Plz add more tests if you like. :D

First of all thank you Narges honey for answering the tests. Thank god you are here! At leat one person cared to answer! This is alot encouraging!

As about the answers.
1. Your choice was correct. The answer is c and your explanation is also correct. Just to add a little extra information when "The" Precedes some adjectives it makes the whole phrase work as a plural noun. More examples for such adjectives are : The rich, The dead, The old , The young or the needy.

2.You were right for one part but wrong in another part. Police is considered plural so we treat it like a plural noun. The single form will be a 'policeman' or a 'police woman'. But the tense of this sentence isn't present continuous but actually Present perfect. We have "For" in the sentence as the clue and the action has started some time in the past and it is still in progress. So the correct choice will be "D"

3. The correct answer is "b" and your explanation was completely right.

Thank you again Narges for taking time to answer. You only had one little mistake.

P.s(Post script)
I felt sorry for myself today for being a 'Sampadi'. A very useful topic and only one answer!

The second seires of tests:

1. The young man showed great ........in his best-known novel.
a. ability b. feeling c. observation d. influence

2. A large area of flat land with few trees is called.....
a. plain b. forest c. ground d. desert

3. It's wonderful what they can do these days.
Wonderful means.......
a. interesting b. surprising c.amusing d. producing

4.The police realized that the man was ........
a.lieing b. lyeing c. lying d. Liing
